چکیده

Dr. James Pitágoras de Mattos – Rua Santa Clara 50 / 702 22041-012 Rio de Janeiro RJ Brasil. E-mail: [email protected] Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) is a taupathy of unknown etiology, representing 7.5% of all cases of Parkinsonism and 50% of atypical Parkinsonism. It was first described as a clinicopathological entity by Steele, Richardson and Olszewski in 1964. Clinically, PSP must be considered in any levodopa-unresponsive parkinsonian patient at middle-to-late age with progressive unexplained prominent postural instability with falls and supranuclear vertical gaze palsy. The latter is characterized by limitation of upward, downward or lateral gaze, mainly downward. Other features are also important, such as: astonished face, retrocollis, lid freezing, monotonal speech, disartria, dysphagia, dementia and sloppy eaters. We report a patient with signs and symptoms suggestive of PSP who markedly improve six months after discontinuation of amiodarone and flunarizine.

Progressive Supranuclear Palsy-Like Syndrome After Aortic Aneurysm Repair: A Case Series

The syndrome of progressive supranuclear palsy-like syndrome is a rare complication of ascending aortic aneurysm repair. We report two patients with videos and present a table of prior reported cases. To our knowledge there is no previously published video of this syndrome. The suspected mechanism is brainstem injury though neuroimaging is often negative for an associated infarct. We hope our r...

FTLD-TDP with motor neuron disease, visuospatial impairment and a progressive supranuclear palsy-like syndrome: broadening the clinical phenotype of TDP-43 proteinopathies. A report of three cases

BACKGROUND Frontotemporal lobar degeneration with ubiquitin and TDP-43 positive neuronal inclusions represents a novel entity (FTLD-TDP) that may be associated with motor neuron disease (FTLD-MND); involvement of extrapyramidal and other systems has also been reported. CASE PRESENTATION We present three cases with similar clinical symptoms, including Parkinsonism, supranuclear gaze palsy, vis...

Striopallidodentate Calcification and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy-Like Phenotype in a Patient with Idiopathic Hypoparathyroidism

We present a 77-year-old woman with levodopa-nonresponsive parkinsonism, dementia, and supranuclear gaze palsy on vertical and horizontal gaze. Laboratory findings were consistent with idiopathic hypoparathyroidism, and brain computed tomography showed extensive bilateral calcifications of the basal ganglia, centrum semiovale, dentate nuclei, and cerebellar white matter. These results illustrat...
